3. Help shape the United Church’s future

The 42nd General Council made major decisions to transform the structure of The United Church of Canada.  These decisions do not take effect unless the broader church approves through the “remit” process.  The eight remits, with background information about them, are now available at We need to hear from pastoral charges on five of these proposals, and from presbyteries on all eight. Visitors to find my introduction to the remits, along with links to comprehensive study guides for each, and information about the voting process and timing. By spring, information about webinars and video presentations will also be available there. Please read the material online, then send us your pastoral charge or presbytery’s decision on the paper ballots being mailed out in the next week. Church members at any level can email questions to

8.  Public Performance Copyright Site Licenses

This is the tenth year that Maritime Conference has negotiated a public performance copyright site license agreement with Criterion Pictures and Audio Ciné Films Inc.  We are able to offer a similar opportunity this year.  Although the cost has risen slightly from last year, it remains a better rate than an individual congregation could negotiate.  You may wish to visit their respective websites for further information: and

The combined cost for both companies to cover congregations in Maritime Conference will be $1.30 per person plus HST based on average Sunday attendance as reported in the Year Book.  The license will be in effect from April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2017.

Please complete the application form if you are interested in registering your congregation for this license and forward it to Maritime Conference Office along with a cheque made payable to Maritime Conference Fund by Monday, March 14, 2016.  This is the ONLY opportunity to enroll for this year!

If you have any questions about this program, please contact Lorraine Horyl by email or by phone 506-536-1334, Ext 5.
