1. Condolences – Norman Alexander MacQueen
Sympathy is extended to the Rev. Lori Beth Sheffield-Bowles and family on the death of her grandfather Norman Alexander MacQueen, 92, of Sydney Mines, who passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital. His funeral service was held Sunday, September 4th at the Gospel Hall, Yorke St., Sydney Mines, with Joe Bernon officiating.

2. Deadline Approaching for Applications to Program Assistant to Youth and Young Adult Ministries
Maritime Conference of The United Church of Canada is searching for the appropriate candidate to fill a contract term position: Program Assistant to Youth and Young Adult Ministries.
This half-time term position will offer resourceful support to Conference youth and young adult programs and camping ministries, and their leaders; will nurture networking among ministries and leaders; will advocate for and promote the engagement of youth and young adults within the varied ministries of the church. The term for this position ends on December 31, 2017.
Skills and Experience required:
- experience with Conference youth programs such as camps, Intermediates at Conference, Youth Forums
- connections to youth and young adults and their leaders networks in the region
- demonstrated event planning and promotions experience
- knowledge of educational methods and current youth ministry resources
- ability to work in team or independently
- computer competency including skills for social media
- strong communication skills
Maritime Conference staff work out of the Maritime Conference Office in Sackville, NB. Office hours are negotiable. Since this position involves travel throughout the Maritime Provinces, a valid driver’s licence is required.
This is a 0.5 FTE (half time) position at General Council salary category 6, the prorated salary in 2016 is $2184/month.

3. Maritime Conference Learning Site Grant – note correct link
The Maritime Conference Ministry Personnel and Education Committee (MPE) has been directed to administer a small grant program to support active educational learning site ministries within Maritime Conference. The grant is available to support congregations (and other units) that are offering a learning site ministry to a student working toward paid accountable ministry within the United Church of Canada. There are two intake dates for applications each year, with further information and application forms available online. Search for “Learning Site” on our website for more information. 4. Mission & Service Global Pilgrimage to Kenya 2017
GO, SEE, TELL the connections between global Mission & Service and United Church communities of faith by traveling with a delegation to visit our partners in Kenya, March 25 – April 4, 2017.
We are seeking applications from United Church members who are committed to animating and strengthening Mission & Service giving. One Mission & Service Enthusiast from each Conference (13), one UCW representative (1) (United Church Women), and one Conference staff person will be chosen to join this pilgrimage.
