1. Moderator to visit Maritime Conference

At some point during their three-year term, the Moderator conducts an official visit to each Conference in the church. The practice in Maritime Conference has been to share this visit among the Presbyteries/Synod on a cycle, so that each Moderator can visit a variety of areas in the Conference, and each Presbytery/Synod can look forward to having approximately every third Moderator come to call.

Within the term of Moderator Jordan Cantwell, Woolastook, St. Croix, South Shore and Truro Presbyteries will be visited. Time will also be made for a quick visit to Atlantic School of Theology, Tatamagouche Centre, and with the United Church Naval Chaplains in Halifax.

The Moderator will be visiting with Wilmot United Church in Fredericton in recognition of their becoming an Affirming Ministry on Sunday, October 2. The official visit to Maritime Conference begins the next day. The rough schedule is attached here.

2. Maritime Conference Learning Site Grant

The Maritime Conference Ministry Personnel and Education Committee (MPE) has been directed to administer a small grant program to support active educational learning site ministries within Maritime Conference.  The grant is available to support congregations (and other units) that are offering a learning site ministry to a student working toward paid accountable ministry within the United Church of Canada.  There are two intake dates for applications each year, with further information and application forms available online.  Search for “Learning Site” on our website for more information.  For additional information please contact Rev’d Steve Longmoore, chair MPE, by email or 506-652-8429.

3. Affirming Ministry Celebration

On Sunday, October 2nd at 11 a.m., Wilmot United Church, Fredericton will formally celebrate being recognized as an Affirming Ministry within The United Church of Canada. The Conference Committee for Affirming Ministry congratulates the congregation and invites all of us within Maritime Conference to remember our sisters and brothers at this particular time by including them in our Prayers of the People in worship this coming Sunday.
