The announcements for this last week of November are:

  1. Condolences – Rev. Bobby Fillier
  2. Our Committees Need You!
  3. Take the Giving Challenge! Gifts with Vision
  4. Thursdays in Black

1. Condolences – Rev. Bobby Fillier

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the Rev. Matthew Fillier and family on the death of his father, the Rev. Bobby Fillier,  who passed on the morning of November 28th at home. The funeral will be later on in January.  An obituary will be posted as it becomes available.

2. Our Committees Need You!

Serving on a Conference committee is a great way to contribute to the work of the church. A new online form will help match potential volunteers with vacancies.

You will be asked your contact information, past experience, skills, and interests. You may express interest in one particular committee, or simply indicate “Willing to serve where needed.”

When a vacancy opens, a member of the Nominating Committee may contact you. Filling out the form is an expression of interest only – not a commitment. All members of conference and presbyteries are strongly encouraged to fill it out as soon as possible.

3.Take the Giving Tuesday Challenge! Gifts with Vision

Dear Friends,

I just now gave my gift to the Gifts with Vision for 2016!  I am excited to be a part of this year’s campaign and the good work we will be able to do through our United Church Partners in 2016 and 2017!   I want to invite you to join me in making a difference in the lives of others … in Jesus’ name.  On Giving Tuesday, or in the days ahead, give an extra gift … give a Gift with Vision!

Stewardship & Gifts Officer,  Atlantic Canada

This is Giving Week and I am writing to let you know about Moderator Jordan Cantwell’s giving challenge for this year’s Gifts with Vision campaign. She’s hoping everyone connected with The United Church of Canada will give a Gift with Vision. Nora Sanders, General Secretary, has accepted the challenge. Please join in the giving and in sharing the invitation to be generous. Please share this giving opportunity with your friends and family and share your story of giving too. On social media? Join us on Facebook.

Since we launched the new Gifts with Vision catalogue in October 2016, people have given more than 750 gifts. Join in this story of generosity and meaningful giving on Giving Tuesday and through the Christmas giving season.

Check out these inspiring stories shared by our partners of the difference that Gifts with Vision has made in people’s lives at

Thank you for your meaningful gift-giving through Gifts with Vision. Your gifts bring hope to people in their community, in Canada and right around the world.

4. Thursdays in Black

If you’ve noticed lately on our Maritime Conference Face Book page on Thursdays we dress in black and post a picture along with our General Council counterparts. This is in support of Thursdays in Black: zero tolerance for violence against women. Join us! More info at
