2. Press Release
“Windows Into the Future”
Truro, Nova Scotia – First United Church has been selected to compete for prize money in the National Trust for Canada’s “This Place Matters” competition.
During the competition the group will be working to raise $40,000 – $60,000 toward the replacing of the church windows. These windows are key to maintaining the historical integrity of the building and allowing it to remain open to the public for concerts, gatherings, conferences and so much more. If the windows are not replaced the building will be condemned and closed for future use.
First United Church, with its 143ft steeple stands as witness to the history and story of the town of Truro. It has been a gathering space for the last 100 years, open to all regardless of race, creed or culture. With its new audio-visual system and seating for 800 this building provides a space where the gifts and talents of local, provincial and national artists are show cased and celebrated. It is also a gathering place for the community in times of grief and a space for conferences and festivals. The money raised will enable this building to continue to be a site where community is fostered and celebrated for generations yet to come.
For more information or to schedule an interview about our entry in “This Place Matters” competition please contact Rev. Valerie Kingsbury, (902) 324-1615,
