1. Godly Play Core Training for Storytellers & Doorpersons

New Dates Fall 2018 in Halifax!  September & October

There are a lot of things you can learn from a book or a lecture, but Godly Play is best learned from the inside out.

At a Godly Play Core Training participants
· experience and learn about the different kinds of Godly Play stories;
· tell a story by heart and receive supportive feedback;
· learn the fundamentals of setting up your own Godly Play space and program.

Training is offered by accredited trainers from Godly Play Maritimes and includes three modules, each with a key plenary session and stories from one of the Godly Play genres:

Module A: Friday, Sept 21st – 8:30 am -5:30 pm – Sacred Stories & Creating Sacred Environments
Module B: Saturday, Sept 22nd – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm – Parables & the Spirituality of the Child
Module C: Saturday, Oct. 27th – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm – Liturgical Action Stories & the Community of Children

All modules will be hosted at First Baptist, 1300 Oxford St., Halifax, NS

Certificate is awarded upon completion of all three required modules. Modules may be attended in any order, over time and location. However full registration is due in advance of commencement of program.

Refresher for Godly Play Storytellers and Doorpersons

Come again! Godly Play Storytellers and Doorpersons are invited to attend the Core Training as a refresher.  Join with a new cohort of storytellers and share your experiences and refresh your skills. Choose one module or come for all three! Cost: $60 per day module includes lunch and snacks. Complete registration form for Core Training and note in comments to the registrar that you are attending training module(s) as a refresher and the date you originally completed Core Training.

2. Stewardship Workshop with Roger Janes at Chipman United Church

Rev. Roger Janes, Stewardship & Gifts, Atlantic Region –  is flying in from Newfoundland to be with us. Roger, a consummate storyteller, is offering a workshop on Saturday, September 8, 2018, 10:30-12:30 at Chipman United Church with lunch to follow.

YOU and your pastoral charge: members, adherents, stewards, Treasurers, anyone interested in the well-being of your church have been extended an invitation.  Please RSVP by email <>, phone 339-6827 so we can get the lunch details in order.

The workshop is called:

“Stewardship Best Practices – How to Grow Stewardship and Increase Giving.”

Maritime Church Administrators Association is holding a one day conference on Saturday, September 22nd at Tatamagouche Centre.

Now is your chance to come and find out what we are all about!  We will be holding two workshops, our Annual Meeting and a worship service.

5. Invitation to Participate in AST Research Project

NOT having a funeral?  I’d like to ask you some questions…

My name is John Peter Anthony and I am preparing my thesis for a Master of Divinity degree at the Atlantic School of Theology.  I am a candidate for Ordained Ministry in the United Church of Canada.  As part of the requirements for the degree, I am conducting a research study that is investigating why it is that individuals decide not to have a funeral upon their death.

In this study data will be collected through interviews with people like yourself whom I understand have decided not to have a funeral

The interview will last about 45 minutes to an hour.  The interview will focus on your experience as you lived through this decision.  Notes will be taken; a recording will be made of our talk.  Your participation is fully voluntary.  The time of this interview is entirely at your convenience.

Your participation is totally voluntary.  Your identity will be anonymous. My intent is strictly to discover the reasons for the decision.  There is no desire to influence the decision.  Information will be destroyed following the presentation which is scheduled for late November 2018. Any recordings will be erased.
