4. Give to Goldcorp Victims Campaign

“All the profits made by Goldcorp would not repair the damages…”. Sister Maudilia Lopez Cardona, May 2018, Maritime Conference Annual Meeting

Inspired by Sister Maudy’s presentation at Conference Annual Meeting, Mining the Connections Working Group is pleased to announce a campaign for the Restitution for Goldcorp Victims (co-sponsored with United for Mining Justice Network). She described the devastating impacts of Goldcorp’s Marlin Mine in Guatemala, even though the United Church Pension Board claims that its management engagement with Goldcorp has made a positive difference. Sr. Maudilia’s talk can be found here.

This symbolic restitution campaign is an opportunity, even in a small way, to show solidarity while also expressing our sorrow with the Pension Board and General Council Executive’s lack of support for divestment, in spite of the will of the Church expressed at General Council 42. For background information, click here.

Individuals, Presbytery Committees, Outreach committees and other groups, please support this campaign! Small donations add up.  Every contribution helps.  Donations must be received no later than Dec. 15th 2018. Charitable gift receipts will be issued by the end of February 2019 for contributions of $20 and more.
