Changes to Vital Statistics Act impacting Registration of Marriage
On July 9, 2019, there are legislative and regulatory amendments to the Vital Statistics Act that are being implemented, which will have an impact on the process of the Registration of Marriage.
X as a sex indicator will be available for individuals who do not identify exclusively as male or female to be represented on their Vital Statistics certificates. Because of the legislative amendments, we have also revised our forms and documents to reflect the changes.

General Council Nominations
The General Council Nominations Committee has launched a new call for nominations for a few key vacancies. People across the church are invited to express their interest, or nominate others who have the gifts to serve well in these leadership roles. www.united-church.ca/opportunities
Climate Advisory Circle
We are seeking two Indigenous people from the United Church to be part of the Climate Advisory Circle. This circle advises United Church staff about how to most effectively advocate and engage members for climate justice nationally. The advisory group will complement General Council Office staff with expertise from across the diversity of the church, including the Indigenous Church, and provide local and regional perspectives on climate advocacy and animation. Finance Advisory Committee
The Finance Advisory Committee provides support, leadership, and advice on the finances of the General Council Office, the General Council, and its Executive. The committee is seeking up to four new members who will bring financial and stewardship experience and knowledge. Individuals will be comfortable with or have expertise in one or more financial disciplines, including operations management, strategic planning, accounting, financial strategy, investments, risk management, or audits. Judicial Committee
We are seeking nine people from across the church who are knowledgeable in legal processes and the governance of the church. At least four of these members will be specialists. All members of the Judicial Committee will have an aptitude for and skills in legal processes or in the governance of the church. Those serving as specialists will have related legal or administrative tribunal experience as assessed by the chair and resource staff of the Judicial Committee. Deadline for applications: September 11, 2019

This workshop will help religious leaders set healthy boundaries in their daily work. It will meet the mandatory boundaries training requirements (Introduction and Refresher) for all United Church ministry personnel and Licensed Lay Worship Leaders. Godly Play Core Training for Storytellers & Doorpersons – Fall 2019 in Halifax! September & October
There are a lot of things you can learn from a book or a lecture, but Godly Play is best learned from the inside out.
At a Godly Play Core Training participants
· experience and learn about the different kinds of Godly Play stories;
· tell a story by heart and receive supportive feedback;
· learn the fundamentals of setting up your own Godly Play space and program.
Training is offered by accredited trainers from Godly Play Maritimes and includes three key plenary sessions and stories from each of the Godly Play genres:
Friday, September 27 from 4pm – 9pm AND Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8:30 – 5:30pm AND Friday, October 18 from 4pm – 9pm AND Saturday, October 19 from 8:30 – 5:30pm
All modules will be hosted at First Baptist, 1300 Oxford St., Halifax, NS. Certificate is awarded upon completion of all three required modules. Modules may be attended in any order, over time and location. However full registration is due in advance of commencement of program. Cost: $350
