The 44 General Council of The United Church of Canada will meet July 21-25, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta. General Council Commissioners are voting members of the General Council meeting, and serve as commissioners for three (3) years. A minimum of 1/3 of elected commissioners are to be ministry personnel, and a minimum of 1/3 of elected commissioners are to be lay representatives. (see section D. 1. of bylaws of The Manual, 2019).
Regional Council 15 will elect fifteen (15) commissioners to the 44 General Council, with at least five (5) commissioners being ministry personnel, and a minimum of five (5) commissioners being lay representatives from the communities of faith within the bounds of Region 15.
At the Region 15 Annual Meeting on June 10, 2020, we will elect five (5) ministry personnel and five (5) lay representatives to be commissioners to the 44 General Council. Five (5) alternates for both ministry personnel and lay representatives (to a total of ten (10)) will also be named. The remaining five (5) commissioners will be elected at the 2021 meeting, to ensure balance and diversity.
Nominations will close on June 1, 2020 at 11:59pm. There will be no nominations received from the floor. All nominees must be either elected lay representatives of a community of faith within the bounds of Region 15, or ministry personnel within the bounds of Region 15. Each nomination needs to moved and seconded by someone other than the Nominee (no self nominations, please), and the mover and seconder must be a member of a community of faith within the bounds of Region 15. All nominees will be asked to introduce themselves at the webinar, June 2nd, at 7pm.
