Wage Subsidy Program – Update from Erik Mathieson
On July 17, 2020, the government announced an extension of the 75% wage subsidy program through the balance of the year with much greater flexibility. Details available here, Wage Subsidy Extension. This extension still needs Parliamentary approval in the coming days.
We will probably do a webinar on the updated program once details are known and confirmed, but a key message to all our ministries is to get registered online with the CRA if they haven’t already. Ideally, they would have a My Business Account, or at least have someone registered as a representative authorized to do online transactions. We continue to offer a help desk function for this at CRAhelp@united-church.ca for folks running into difficulties with getting online setup.
The government has also extended the CECRA rental program through July and of course made the CEBA loan program more available to churches that have regular rental income or a business activity. (Note fundraising events do not count as business activities even if they have sales.)
Church in Mission Prayer Rooms
Church in Mission Unit is offering an opportunity to Pray for each other across the Country from East to West. Given these uncertain and overwhelming times for our congregation and leaders, we invite you to join a facilitated half hour online time of prayer (modeled after the Prayer Room at GC43), to pray for every pastoral charge by name. Prayer rooms will happen throughout the summer beginning with the East and working our way to the West hosting one prayer session per region once a week. Nothing is required except your presence.
