Weekly Prayer from Rev. Dr. Simon Muwowo, Burin and Epworth Pastoral Charges
Loving God, Creator of all times, places and seasons, we thank you for the gift of summer, the days of light, sunshine and leisure. Thank you for the beauty that surrounds us everywhere: the beautiful flowers, the vibrant blue of the sky, the calming surface of lakes and the excitement of children while playing. The beauty of people walking in parks, families enjoying time together and the increased time to spend with those we love. As we open our eyes to the beauty of nature and people, open our hearts to receive all as a gift. Help us to realize and appreciate that you keep all these fabulous surroundings to warm our soul. Let all the gifts we enjoy during summer time deepen our awareness of your love so that we may share this with all we meet along the way and enjoy the wonderful season of summer. Glory be to God for seasons, summer and sunshine. Amen

What does it mean to be an Affirming Church? Guests on this episode are from one of the first and one of the most recent Communities of Faith in Atlantic Canada to be recognized as Affirming Ministries in The United Church of Canada.

Katlyn Vardy, from St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, tells Laura about their involvement with St. James United Church which recently completed the process, and about Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble – the organization supporting the network of primarily United Church ministries that strive to be fully inclusive of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Caden Hebb and April Hart met at Bedford United Church, in Bedford, NS, which was designated an Affirming Ministry in 2006. Caden reflects on growing up in an Affirming congregation from his perspective as a transgender person and activist. April Hart points to the importance of continuing to be strong voices of welcome to the 2SLGBTQAI+ community, long after you start flying a rainbow flag.
