Weekly Prayer from Rev. Ian March-MacCuish, First United Church, Mount Pearl
Let us pray. Loving God, you are on every breath. Each morning we breathe you in and you invite us to live each day in your creation. We remain amazed at the colours of life that surround us. With the passing of each season we are reminded of the beauty that leaves us speechless. A sunrise or sunset, a full moon or a sliver of moon, a gentle breeze or a strong wind that fills our sails causing us to move forward feeling your tug on us O God. Pull us where you want us to be and help us to grow where you have planted us. Our prayers continue to be with your pandemic stricken world. Each day there is news of still more numbers who have contracted the virus. Help us to remember that with each number there is a human life attached. A life that continues to need your love, our love and all our support. Give each of us the strength to do our part, to refrain from large group gatherings, where physical distancing is not possible, to wear a mask to offer protection to ourselves and others, and listen to the medical professionals who are tasked with sharing knowledge and offering advice. Our prayers are shared with those who are restricted from seeing loved ones because of senior home rules, or essential travellers, or hospital restrictions. We continue to pray for all those looking for a vaccine. We pray their work is done for the good of humanity and not for reasons of profit or nationality or other biases.
O God, as we give thanks for the changing seasons, we also hold in prayer those affected by hurricane season. For those who felt the impact of recent storms, whose home was destroyed or business ruined, we include in our prayers. For those who have and continue to be affected by forest fire season, we hold in prayer. For all the support people who have given of their time to help those in need, those who need clothes and food, those needing medical attention, we hold in prayer. We prayer for ourselves. For wherever we find ourselves on the journey of faith. For those who are experiencing a medical situation, may you hear their prayers and the prayers of those who love them. For those who are having a crisis of faith, may they feel your hand of support rest upon their shoulder. May your love continue to wash over us and your mercies never end. Bless us, your children. Amen
