Weekly Prayer from Ms. Susan Sheppard, DLM, Bell Island-Portugal Cove and St. James United Pastoral Charges
Creator of All. In this season of Creation, as we approach the Autumn Equinox, we thank you for the glorious summer that was, the harvests that are gifts from our gardens, and the opportunities to return to learning, work, and worship. We know that we must keep vigilant in these continuing days of the pandemic, but the approaching Equinox reminds us that balance is your gift. Balance in our fear with joy. Balance in our work and rest. Balance in our giving and receiving. Balance in the natural world around us. This week our siblings of the Jewish faith will celebrate Rosh Hashanah (New Year) followed by High Holy Days or Days of Awe. This is a time of self-examination, a spiritual checkup. What choices have I made? How have I treated others and nature? How have I made the world a better place? May we also take some time for a spiritual checkup, truthfully answer the questions and make amends where we have made mistakes.

As we prepare to return to our places of worship, help us be mindful of the fears and concerns of those around us. While some may be eager to gather, others among us may not. Help us to continue to reach out whether by phone, email, or virtual services. Though we must remain physically distanced we are still one family, together under your sheltering wings regardless of race, creed, age, ability, cultural background, nationality, sexual orientation, or gender identity. May it be so? Blessed be. Amen.
