Dear Friends,

Got your sermon done for Sunday? Have you ever wondered how a Christian in the Holy Land understands the Gospel message?

Canadian Friends of Sabeel, is offering video sermons by Palestinian Christian leaders. Encounter  is a virtual liturgy program that gives you early access to sermons, special prayers, and music by Palestinian faith leaders to include in your church service. Each sermon will correspond to the common lectionary, allowing for seamless integration. Sermons will be 8-10 minutes in length and sent 2-3 weeks in advance as YouTube and Zoom videos.

Sunday, Nov 29, Rev. Dr. Naim Ateek will be preaching on Matthew 25: 31-42, the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats. Naim was the founder of Palestinian Liberation theology. He was the pastor and canon of St. George’s Anglican Cathedral in Jerusalem, author, and founder and Past Director of Sabeel: Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre.

Sunday, Dec. 6th  Nora Carmi has worked in leadership for Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre Jerusalem, Kairos Palestine, and the YWCA of Palestine. She was selected by the Christian community as their representative to personally address Pope Benedict XVI on his visit to Bethlehem. From Jerusalem, she will be reflecting on the theme of Peace, for Advent 2.

For Christmas, Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb has been a long time pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, and past President of the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. He will be putting together a special Christmas sermon from Bethlehem.

Many Canadians have worked closely with each of these Palestinian leaders and deeply appreciate how their deep faith and their personal experience of living in the Holy Land guides them in their reflections toward the goal of a just peace.
