As an archivist, I come across a lot of bad handwriting (disclaimer: my handwriting is not great either)! That’s why I get so excited when I find a document with really nice handwriting. Perhaps there are a few others out there who would also share in my excitement. The following page is taken from a baptism register from Brunswick Street Methodist Church in Halifax (now Brunswick Street United Church). Hope you enjoy as much as I did.
I too, like good handwriting. When I was in grade four in 1963, my teacher taught us penmanship which I have been forever grateful. I started my accounting career as a bookkeeper doing manual books and neat handwriting was a must. Illegible numbers would make the job very difficult to balance the books. I had an accountant tell me how pleased he was the first time he audited the books, he said that not very often were books so neat. Small blessings that go a long way.
