Guaranteed Liveable Income
Make it a Federal Election Issue A Federal Election has been called for September 20th. Make Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) an election issue. Here are some suggestions (add and share your own): Write a letter as a member of The United Church of Canada (or as a concerned citizen) to All Candidates Seeking Election in your district, highlighting that GLI is a campaign of The United Church of Canada, together with numerous organizations and individuals across Canada, including politicians and senators in all political parties. Ask the question (and request a reply): Will you and your party implement a Guaranteed Livable Income for all? Telephone all candidates seeking election with the above information and question. Write a letter to the Leaders of All Federal Political Parties with the above information and question. See United Church Election Resources for further information as well as The United Church of Canada Guaranteed Livable Income (the main website for the United Church will provide you with a link to GLI). Organize an All Candidates Meeting (Zoom) for all candidates in your district or region (this would be a good opportunity to work with another community organization, UC congregation, another denomination or multi-faith community). Sign a Petition through www.basicincomenow.ca joining with thousands across Canada.
And Looking Ahead – The United Church of Canada has named October 17th (International Day for the Elimination of Poverty) as GLI Sunday for United Church congregations. Start making plans now for worship/education/action in your congregation. Check The United Church of Canada website for helpful resources.

Vital Church Maritimes 2021 Conference
Wilderness Calling: Trusting in Jesus
October 14 – 16, 2021
Inn on Prince, Truro, N.S. (+ limited Zoom option)
Engaging in ministry these days is like trekking into unknown territory. One popular author describes congregational engagement with our neighbours, saying it is like ‘canoeing the mountains’ – what traditionally and typically worked in years past is no longer effective. We are CALLED TO THIS WILD using new approaches, including humble listening and courageous experimentation.
Join with congregational leaders from a variety of backgrounds to share experiences and ideas in exploring outward-oriented ministry in this wilderness time. Step out into an unmapped missional journey, discover the signs of the Spirit’s leading, and share best practices for this holy hinterland. Christ beckons and we venture together!
This 3-day conference features plenty of inspiring discussion, Bible studies, a special outdoor worship, meals and much more! Two-thirds of VCM participants are lay leaders, including some from Lutheran, United and Presbyterian churches. There are also several limited Zoom sessions for those who are unable to attend in person. Click here to view the poster for the event. The Conference schedule can be found here.
HURRY TO REGISTER! Special Early Bird rates until Sept. 20. (Registration closes midnight Oct. 6)
