By: Bob Lindsay, Secretary, United Church Men of the Maritimes

There are two forms of recognition for men’s work in Maritime Conference:

1. Award of Exceptional Merit (AEM): To recognize [living] United Church men who have
demonstrated exemplary leadership and activity in working with men of the church over many
years.

2. Honour Roll (HR): Exactly the same criterion, but for men who are deceased.
The Award of Exceptional Merit was instituted in Sept. 2002, in time for the October 2002 rally,
our first biennial. The first recipients that year were A. Peter Murray of Sydney, NS, who
became a regular attender of rallies, and Lorimer Harris of Charlottetown, PEI. They were
followed by three more in 2004.

The Honour Roll was instituted by a motion at the 2004 rally, in time for a list of 20 to be drawn
up in time for the 2006 rally. That list was included on a board once stored at Trinity-St.
Stephen’s UC in Amherst, where we held all our rallies. It was brought out for display at each
rally.
