Condolences – Dr. Margot Roach

Condolences are extended to the family of Dr. Margot Roach who passed away on August 24, 2023.  The obituary can be viewed here.

Hello from FSLDW President Elizabeth

On Sunday August 27, friends and neighbours gathered at Riverside United Church, Prince William, NB for a closing and decommissioning service upon the sale of the Riverside Building – one worship site of the Living Waters United Church community of faith.

Rev. Alice Finnamore led a very meaningful and hope filled worship. On your behalf, I offered our support and blessings, as well as declared the official words of decommissioning.

It was a time of mixed emotions as those gathered, shared hugs and tears, remembered their family pews, Sunday School concerts singing Away in a Manger, gracious welcoming and favourite singing.

Amid the sadness, there was also a sense of relief that the decision has been made and struggles to pay the bills are now over. Rev. Alice reminded us all that while they would no longer worship at this site, God was not done with Living Waters. Now that the decision has been made and the building sold, there is energy and time to do other things. She proclaimed, “A transformation is happening! Closing the doors of this building we open ourselves to transformation… to be new ways in community…”

A pivotal moment came when Rev. Alice extinguished the Christ Candle. She reminded us that while this was the last time the Christ Candle would be extinguished at this site, they, as a community of faith, would be lighting the Candle at other sites. With Spirit as their guide, may they continue to be a Holy light to one another, their community and world.

Finally, the bulletin cover offered a prayer for all.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference. Reinhold Niebuhr
