Greetings from Regional President

Hello all/Bonjour à tous,

On Nov. 21st, a lovely fall day, I attended the funeral of Rev. Robert (Bob) Hutcheson, held at Spring Park United in Charlottetown. Rev. Darin MacKinnon officiated, a large choir was present (see photo attached), Rev. Bob’s son spoke with love and humour on behalf of the family, and I brought greetings from our Region. One of Rev. Bob’s legacies was his dedication to Camp Abbey on PEI – he led a fundraising campaign in recent years, which garnered over $500,000 in funding for the camp!

I attended a day-long PEI Gathering for ministry personnel, retirees and lay leaders on Oct. 29th, with Sharon Ballantyne, Growth Animator Atlantic, as our special guest. Her words and wisdom, focussing on growth through collaboration and innovation, were most inspiring. Three other sessions were offered: one with a focus on our new hymn book “Then Let Us Sing”, a second on inter-generational worship and a third on Camp Abbey and outdoor ministry. There was plenty of social time with sharing of worship, food and song. An entirely uplifting day, with plans for more to come!

I am still on the lookout for choir photos, innovative ideas for Mission and Service, and would also appreciate hearing of ministerial retirements. Please send them to me at: susalemaistre@gmail.com

In faith/Avec foi,

Sue.

Greetings Growth Seekers from Growth Animator Sharon

What are your 360° observations today? Time to take a spin, turn around, draw the circle wider!
Imagine standing in a circle looking around at those you know, love and share faith with (but your backs are to those beyond your circle). Imagine looking out and reaching into the hurting world (but your backs are to those inside your circle). Now imagine that circle with all the people turning sideways to be able to look both inward and look outward. Send the wave of God’s love throughout, trusting the realms of impact to flow. During church refreshments, do a 360-degree spin before joining a table. Notice who might be alone at a table, off to the side, and join them, not the folks you might usually form a “holy huddle” with. Waiting for an appointment, in a line, on a walk, joining a group of people, notice who needs your moment of kindness and compassion, a smile and some hope in their day. The Newport Institute indicates: “Glimmers are tiny micro moments of joy—fleeting, everyday moments that elicit a rush of happiness, gratitude, calm, peace, safety, or goodwill.” Make giving and receiving glimmers part of your day!
You can reach me by email at sballantyne@united-church.ca or by phone 705 875-8837. Let’s grow together with deep spirituality, bold discipleship and daring justice.

186th Anniversary of St. John’s United Church celebration

ST. JOHN’S UNITED CHURCH (75 Alma St., Moncton) ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY is coming up on Nov. 24 at 11.am  as we celebrate 186 years of worshipping together!
We will be welcoming Craig Murphy, as our guest preacher for our church’s 186th anniversary.
Craig is the father of four, husband of one, and chaplain to many. Since 1996 he has been roaming around prison chaplaincy circles from East to West and back again. As a lay Roman Catholic Chaplain, it has been his privilege to engage in the call of prison chaplaincy and more recently serving in the role as Regional Director of Chaplaincy for Bridges of Canada here in the Atlantic Region.
As it is also Reign of Christ Sunday, we will be having Communion. We will be welcoming new members and more.
