News & Updates
Archives: Turkey Dinner in July
For some reason, I love photographs of people eating meals together and the following photograph is even more interesting because there is a clear view of what people are actually eating. I wouldn't mind having a couple of those rolls or a slice of that cake! The...
6 posts, 24 studs, and 52 joists
The price of lumber has been in the news a lot lately so I thought it would be neat to show some lumber related records from the 1800s. The information is from the minute book of the Building Committee of Higginsville Methodist Church in Nova Scotia (later became...
Archives Recipe of the Month-The Microwave Edition
Ah the microwave...once touted as the epitome of modern cooking, this appliance now has somewhat of a more mixed reputation. Love it or or hate it though, there is no denying the convenience. The following recipes were found in a cookbook simply entitled "Microwave...
Archives: An Ode to Good Handwriting
As an archivist, I come across a lot of bad handwriting (disclaimer: my handwriting is not great either)! That's why I get so excited when I find a document with really nice handwriting. Perhaps there are a few others out there who would also share in my excitement....
Archives: The Ovens Natural Park
It may not come as a surprise that the Archives does not have many landscape photographs in the vault. However, I did stumble across these wonderful photographs of The Ovens Natural Park in Nova Scotia, most likely taken in the winter of 1955. Funnily enough, the...

Exams are coming up for university students all across the country and it was no exception for students at the Presbyterian College in Halifax (Pine Hill) in 1904. Interestingly enough, the exam questions from the previous year were posted in the back of the College...

After this week of beautiful weather, summer seems tantalizingly close. As an ode to the upcoming summer, here is a photograph from Berwick Camp. The photograph did not have a date written on it but it's possibly from the 1890s. Three of the people in the photograph...
Archives Recipe of the Month-The Candy Edition
It’s probably rather cruel to post recipes of candy during Lent but how can one pass by the mention of ice cream candy without giving it some sort of recognition? The following recipes were taken from The Helping Hands Cookbook compiled by the ladies of St. Paul’s...
Archives: “We Know We’ll Miss You Very Much”
Less than 20 days until the official first day of spring! It's been a long winter so I thought it might be nice to showcase these beautiful spring-themed cards. The homemade cards were given to Mrs. Nicholson on the occasion of her and her husband Rev. Nicholson...
The life of a student minister in 1832 and a PEI update
The Archives has some really interesting personal records of individuals and families who served the churches in the region over the years. One such record is this letter from William Fraser to Rev. James Dobson. Fraser, who was 2 years away from being ordained, was...
