Now that spring is almost upon us, it’s time to start thinking about sprucing up our houses, maybe a little cleaning here or a little painting there. It was no different in the 1860s. In the case of the mission house (or manse) on the Pointe de Bute Methodist Circuit, new furniture was purchased, the parlour was papered, the porch was shingled, and oats and clover seed were sown in the field. Not too shabby of an effort for the first few months of 1860! Anyone else thinking of repairing their sleigh this spring?
