I usually schedule posts to appear on the website on Tuesdays but I came across a letter from a Rev. John Cameron dated Monday, June 26, 1887 so obviously I had to post it today instead.
Rev. John Cameron was born in East River, Nova Scotia on September 21, 1817. He received his education at Pictou Academy and Pine Hill Divinity Hall and was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in Nine Mile River in 1844. At the time, this charge would have included Nine Mile River, Kennetcook, Rawdon, and Elmsdale and Rev. Cameron often had to visit parts of his field on horseback. He later served in Bridgewater (1879-1885) and then Bridgetown (1886-1888) where he retired until his death on March 1, 1907. The letter was to his second wife, Mary Isobel Hebb, and the Una mentioned in the letter was their daughter.
The letter is 4 pages long so I’m just posting the envelope and the first page but you can click here for a transcription. It’s a great little read! Note Rev. Cameron’s relief at only having to preach two times the next Sunday instead of three so he can have a rest in between services.
