Follow That Star! begins with a time of remembering: the Narrator elicits memories of Christmases past; Mary remembers how she felt when she learned that she was to be Jesus’ mother; Joseph recalls his confusion over Mary’s pregnancy; and the Angel talks about reassuringly appearing to Joseph in a dream. We meet three Wise Men who have seen a new star in the sky, which they follow to Herod’s palace. Herod quickly sends them to find the newborn child. The Wise Men follow the star to find Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, and discover that the Light of the world has been born! The keyboard/piano score for Follow That Star! is written for early intermediate level players, with additional optional instruments, including Orff instruments, percussion, flute, clarinet, and two-octave handbells. Songs: The Snow Lay on the Ground; Look! Look!; Three Men on Camelback; It Is Good to Be King!; Three Men on Camelback (Reprise); Laudamus Te; and We Have Seen the Light! The music can be sung in unison or two parts, although choirs of any size will enjoy singing the canon “Three Men on Camelback” in unison, then in two parts, and finally in a three-part canon as the Wise Men travel from site to site in the musical.
