Commemorative Service and Dedication – Former Loch Lomond United Church

There will be a Commemorative Service and Dedication of the Cairn at the site of the former Loch Lomond United Church this Saturday, October 16, at 2:00 p.m. The address is 2384 Loch Lomond Road East, Enon, Cape Breton County, NS. Pastor Keith Wiseman officiating. Please bring your own chair! There will be refreshments on site following the service. Washroom facilities available.


Position Available – Minister for Justice, Mission and Outreach

The Regional Councils of Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters, Region 15 and First Dawn Eastern Edge are seeking an individual to fill the role of Minister for Justice, Mission and Outreach. Are you feeling called to work with the members in the three eastern Regions? Maybe you know of someone who might need a little nudge?

This is a permanent full-time position (35 hours/week) shared equally among the three regions. Interested applicants are invited to submit their resume to careers@united-church.ca quoting the job number 21-41. Closing date is October 19, 2021.

YOU ARE INVITED!

Join your colleagues/friends/neighbours in the three Atlantic Regions in an on-line book study through 4 weeks in November. We’ll read together Canadian Senator (Retired) Hugh Segal’s recent book : Bootstraps Need Boots; One Tory’s Lonely Fight To End Poverty in Canada (UBC Press, Vancouver, 2019.

The four Zoom sessions are to be held on Wednesdays, November 3, 10, 17 and 24th at 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Atlantic Time; 7:30 to 9 NL time. Each session will be  1 ½ hours duration. Meetings will be hosted by Marion Pardy (NL), Karen & Hal Llewlellyn (NS) and Rose-Hannah Gaskin (NB).

We ask those who register to make a commitment to read through the book and to participate as fully as possible in the sessions. The plan is to go through 5 chapters each evening of the 3rd, 10th, and 17th. We have Senator Hugh Segal himself confirmed for November 24th discussion and final session.

There is no charge for the course. We invite participants, however,  to consider making a free-will offering to the Mission and Service Fund of The United Church of Canada.

The RC15 property inventory list has been updated for October, this inventory lists property (buildings, cemeteries, lands) currently registered to your pastoral charge.  All forms and amendments received up to October 12, 2021 are included.  Pastoral charges who do not hold property will not appear on the list.  Please take a moment to review and ensure your pastoral charge details are correct, you can review by A-Z property name or by postal code using the link below and submit a form if there are any additions or amendments.

Part-Time and Bi-Vocational Ministry in the United Church – A Conversation

By 2030 more than 40% of calls and appointments in the United Church will be part-time. The first large-scale investigation of this phenomenon is underway. Come explore cutting edge research and help shape policy recommendations for congregations, Regions, and the Office of Vocations.

During the workshop, Dr. Ross Bartlett will outline the research findings in the study of part-time ministry within the United Church. Participants will also be asked to help form responses to issues, problems or opportunities identified.
Who should attend?  Those of you in the role already – or those considering it, students, judiciary officials – everyone is welcome. Virtual: free.  In-person: limited to 20 participants $35.
