Christmas Greetings from the Fireside Club
The Fireside Club was based out of St. David's Presbyterian/United Church in Saint John and was a men's club which held Bible studies as well as debates. This card is actually a mash-up of two different cards; one from 1913 and one from 1915. Merry Christmas to...
Archives Recipe of the Month-Christmas Edition
This month's post was compiled and written by Katie Ferguson, a regular volunteer at the Archives: The first recipe is for a very nice festive loaf (The Art of Cooking in Beaverbank, St. John's United Church Women): Wonderfully Christmas-coloured with red and green...
Outside of that I am still alive and thank the good Lord for the same
As I often like to tell people when I get on my archives spiel, church records are important not only for the stories they tell about specific churches but also for the stories they tell about our broader community and society. According to the minutes of the January...
William Fisher Partridge, editor extraordinaire

Games of the hour’s witchery
Halloween-themed records are few and far between here at the Maritime Conference Archives but the Central Methodist Church (later Central United) Epworth League really stepped up to the plate with their nicely-decorated invitation to a Halloween party c. 1916: ...
Happy Thanksgiving from the Archives!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! The following photograph is from St. Andrew's United Church in Saint John which would eventually become part of St. Andrew and St. David United Church. Doesn't it make you want to haul out the gourds?
Tales from the Pepper Box: Another Theory Busted
As with any good newspaper, the Pepper Box publication of the Pine Hall Divinity Hall residence had its fair share of cartoons. There is no artist credited to the cartoon so I can't give credit to where credit is due but whoever it was seemed to be quite talented!...
Archives Recipe of the Month
I was all set on posting some more recipes this month but as I was reading through some Young People's Union records for another project I came across a reference to a placemat. Is it bad that my first reaction upon seeing this was "PLACEMAT!!!" Anyway, the placemat,...
