Freedom Day March June 21st Honouring Residential School Survivors
We in the United Church are called to live out the Residential School Apology. You may remember that Dorene Bernard spoke at the Bermuda-Nova Scotia Annual Meeting to remind us of the importance of honouring residential school survivors. One way to do that is to join the Freedom March this Friday, June 21st, starting at the Mi’kmaq Memorial Site in Shubenacadie. See announcement below.
Please consider joining, as allies are most welcome.

The largest volume in Jane Doull’s Let Us Pray: A Digital Collection of Prayers is now available. Volume 4 is the Special Occasions volume and it is an amazing collection of prayers.
Have a look at the Table of Contents to see the variety of prayers and liturgy. (insert upload)
Then visit Prayer Bench and pick up your 16 page sample of prayers from all four volumes.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Greetings Growth Seekers from Growth Animator Sharon
Does your welcome start in your neighbourhood? Outside your building? In the parking lot? Once inside your doors? Can everyone come as they are and belong, be accepted? Do we mean and really live “all are welcome.”? Imagine our growth if “all are welcome” means we all do belong and we can trust a community of faith is a safe place, to be able to be true and authentic to who we are. This week consider each person you observe or engage with as welcome at your community of faith. Keep breaking stigmas and eliminating obstacles. Create opportunities to draw the circle wider to break barriers. How might we strengthen invitation in your community of faith and be really welcoming? Reach out to have a conversation with me, with each other, about who is at your table, who is missing, what are the gaps and voices we need to hear? How are we making sure everyone knows they are needed and valued? You can reach me by email at sballantyne@united-church.ca or by phone 705 875-8837. Let’s grow together with deep spirituality, bold discipleship and daring justice.
Good News to Share
Huge news out of Newfoundland and Labrador today, where the province is topping up the Canada Disability Benefit to create a basic income for those living with disabilities. A special shoutout to our colleague Josh Smee of Food First NL and Basic Income NL, cited in the article and instrumental in building support for income support programs in the province!
This policy decision is a recognition that the CDB is woefully inadequate, but also a sign that provinces can lead in supporting the wellbeing of vulnerable communities – as opposed to clawing back benefits or creating further barriers to supports.
Hopefully more provinces follow suit! Please feel free to share this progress widely – effective advocacy in action!
