Hello from FSLDW President Elizabeth
This past week, as your President, I had the honour to represent you at the Celebration of Life for Rev. Val Chongva at Central United Church in Moncton.
On your behalf I offered our sympathy and love to her grieving family.
Val was also a personal friend. We attended the Atlantic School of Theology together and were ordained on the same day in May, 2001 – the one and only time Maritime Conference met in Charlottetown.
Val was a great teacher and lover of Life and Love… and the queen of organization. She was prepared for everything including her death. As such she left a file with clear instructions for all those involved… including me.
Ever an educator, Val wrote the message, to be presented in a dialogue format, that she wanted us to hear. Her words led us through the Past, Present and Future of life. She left us with the question, “Where am I now?”
It’s a good question to ponder. When death comes, “Where am I now?”
Val had me read. “I am with you, and always will be, in the Spirit of Life and Love.”
I leave you with Val’s question. “Where am I now?”
In Peace,
Elizabeth

Action for Guaranteed Livable Income
There is something you can do to help in the advocacy for Guaranteed Liveable Income. Write to your mayor today!
There is an important meeting of all mayors across Atlantic Canada: the Atlantic Mayor’s Congress on June 9th. They will discuss and vote on the following motion for GLI. Add your voice to this call for action.
Sample letter:
Dear …(Mayor’s Name)
I understand that on June 9 there will be a very important meeting of Atlantic Mayors at which a Basic Income Resolution will be presented for debate and approval. Attached is a copy of that resolution. We would urge you to support this resolution given the urgency of the subject matter as outlined in the ‘Whereas’ clauses of the resolution. As you may be aware, many municipalities have passed a similar resolution urging the Provincial and Federal Governments to work toward a Guaranteed Livable Income for all Canadians. I am part of a volunteer network in The United Church of Canada which has been on record since 1972 in support of a Guaranteed Livable Income.
I would be more than happy to discuss this resolution with you further in advance of the upcoming Congress if it be your wish either through email, or by phone, or in person.
Respectfully,
ASTE 2023 COMING SOON
The 54th annual Atlantic Seminar in Theological Education will be happening at the Tatamagouche Centre June 11th to June 16th, 2023.
We will continue the theme “Building Respectful Relations” centering this year on experiences of Black Persons within Canadian Society.
We hope you will join us as we spend 5 days exploring the history, culture and impact of the Black Community in the Atlantic Provinces and how Individuals and Communities of Faith can work as true allies.
This is an opportunity to explore this topic in depth in a safe and supportive environment under the guidance of Dr. Harvey Amani Whitfield, The Rev. Brigid Maya Douglas and the ASTE 2023 community.
