PENSION SUPPORT
The FSLDW Pastoral Relations Committee is pleased to announce the creation of a Pension Convenors Working Group. This group is being created to provide pensioner and family pastoral support and ongoing connection to the church for pensioners and pension survivors residing in the FSLDW Region.
The Working Group will work as a unit but individually is comprised of Rev. Heather MacDougall, Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley and Rev. Jennifer Brown. Each will be assigned as the primary contact for pension community members residing in the following areas of the region.
Rev. MacDougall – PEI
Rev. Dr. Daley – North and Eastern NB
Rev. Brown – West and Southern NB
Currently the Convenors are in the process of establishing accurate lists of pension community members residing in their respective areas and establishing a communications network. Advocacy Works!
This past week, the Atlantic Mayors passed this resolution 26 to 4. Thanks for your advocacy for Guaranteed Liveable Income in Canada. Each step matters.
More Good News re GLI

Hello from FSLDW Region President
Thanks to modern technology, once again this past weakened I was able to be in two places at the same time.
While leading worship at Portland United in Saint John, through a prerecorded video, on your behalf I was able to bring greetings to Rev. Christine MacLeod and the Park Royal United Church Congregation in Charlottetown, PEI as they celebrated new beginnings in ministry through a covenanting service.
These covenanting services happen after much faithful work by many. I think of the members of the various congregations who served to create a community profile, those who served on search committees, Pastoral Relations liaisons who walked with the various committees as they made their way through the process… and Church Hub! And the congregations and clergy personnel who said Yes. All leaning on Spirit’s guidance. Thank you to all.
In other news, to follow up on the petition to save Policy 713 in N. B. that many of you signed at our Annual Meeting, I share with you that NB’s Green Party leader, David Coon, presented the petition in the N. B. legislature.
You can watch a video of him presenting it here.
Finally Happy Indigenous Peoples Day. Please take a moment to watch our Moderator’s message to all of us. I invite you to take a moment to learn one thing about your neighbouring indigenous community and give thanks.

Continuing Education Opportunity
Rev. Oliver Dingwell (Cowan Heights United Church, St. John’s, NL) will be teaching a course entitled Liturgy, Sacraments, and Radical Hospitality at Queen’s College (Memorial University of Newfoundland) during the Fall 2023 semester on Monday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. NL time (5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Atlantic time) beginning Monday, September 11. The course will be offered both in-person and online via Zoom. It is possible to register for this course as a continuing education opportunity. The cost is $350 for the full course, or $175 to join as a course auditor.
The course will explore the concept of ‘welcome’ and ‘inclusion’ in the Canadian church context through a liturgical and sacramental lens. Together we will explore issues of race, gender, orientation, and identity in contemporary Canadian society, and how the worship and sacramental life of churches might be called to respond.
Oliver is the Minister at Cowan Heights United Church in St. John’s, NL. He is currently a doctoral student at Emmanuel College. His academic work is in liturgical and eucharistic theology, studying the value of frequent eucharistic celebration within mainline Protestantism.
For more information, please contact Oliver at odingwell@cowanheightsunited.ca. To register for the course or to get more information about Queen’s College, you can email queens@mun.ca or call (709) 753-0116.
