Greetings from the President of FSLDW

Hello all,

Since I last communicated with you, I was honoured to have been invited to speak at a lovely gathering of PEI Retirees. My theme was on the importance of partnership and collaboration going forward in our Church. Rev. Heather MacDougall, who played a large part in organizing the event, provided a meaningful and relevant reflection to launch the meeting. And I understand that the lunch was excellent (though I could not stay)!

I have acknowledged retirements of Ministry personnel recently, and would like to continue to do so. I invite anyone with information about up-coming retirements to please let me know through e-mail at susalemaistre@gmail.com.

We are preparing for one of two-three trips to our cottage in the Gaspé this summer. I would be very pleased to bring in-person greetings from Region to the Communities of Faith along the route between Prince Edward Island and the Baie des Chaleurs coast of the Gaspé Peninsula. This could be at your churches or at more informal gatherings of the members of your faith communities. Again, the best way to reach me is by email.

I hope to meet as many of you as possible throughout our Region in the coming months.

In faith,

Sue LeMaistre

Pensioner Connection and Support

Greetings from your FSLDW Pension Convenors Working Group. The group was created under the guidance of your Pastoral Relations Committee to provide those in receipt of a United Church Pension and their families with pastoral support and ongoing connection to the church.

The Working Group operates as a unit but individually is comprised of Rev. Heather MacDougall, Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley, Rev. Blair Lewis and Rev. Sally Budge and is supported by our Regional Minister, Rev. Kendall Harrison and Hugh Ellis, Chair of the Pastoral Relations Committee. To date we have 109 pensioners who have registered for this group. Two face-to-face events have been held in PEI. Plans are underway for at least one similar event in New Brunswick this fall and possibly more. Thanks to all of you who have enrolled to date, but we know there are still likely some who remain unaware of this group.

If you wish to have your name added to the contact list, please reach out using the contact information provided below. Family members or caregivers may provide this information with the permission of the pensioner. Your information will not be shared and only be used by the convenors and administrators to connect with you personally about matters related to this ministry. Your personal information will not appear on any public facing mail lists or on the FSLDW website. We are particularly interested in hearing from those whose mobility may be limited or residing in nursing care facilities as they too are part of our vision for this ministry.

Greetings Growth Seekers from Growth Animator Sharon

Did your community of faith recognize indigenous day of prayer and indigenous people’s day? Brain injury awareness? Pride or affirming explorations? Multiculturalism day June 30, Canada day July 1? Connect with me and share from books to movies to places to go and things to do, it is good to share and build community. Perhaps you are thinking more about the neighbours around you and have been meaning to contact me about requesting a neighbourhood profile? It might spark new ideas. One community of faith is launching a project with a community partner to offer social opportunities for their neighbourhood’s new families who need time and space to come together and get to know each other. A community of faith has started an intentional music outreach through the summer. How about a drop-in choir this summer? Don’t forget to invest in some lemonade and perhaps meet outside. Passersby might drop in. One community of faith had their outdoor service in a city park area and discovered neighbours came to join them. If you have a community garden, consider how you can expand and build relationships such as open church doors for cooling off, inviting gardeners to gather at certain time to have refreshments or a picnic meal, a gathering time to cook together using produce, and so much more.
You can reach me by email at sballantyne@united-church.ca or by phone 705 875-8837. Let’s grow together with deep spirituality, bold discipleship and daring justice.
