Message from FSLDW Regional President
Greetings/Bonjour à tous,
Since I communicated with you last, I have attended two churches within our Region, and learned something new and interesting in each place.
On Aug. 18th I was pleased to bring greetings to St. Andrew’s United in New Richmond, located on the Baie des Chaleurs, which will be marking its 185th anniversary this November. The Charge also proudly celebrates its local son, Rev. George Pigeon who, along with his brother Leslie, were instrumental in negotiating the terms of unification for the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational churches in Canada in 1925. Rev. George Pigeon became the first Moderator of the newly-formed United Church of Canada. Rev. Pierre Momberg, current minister at St. Andrew’s, and the congregation, are very proud of their place in the history of our Church.
On Aug. 25th I was among a good number of PE Islanders who attended the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s birth. The special afternoon service was held at Cavendish United Church, with Rev. Eric Lynk presiding. We learned that while she lived in PEI, “Maud” was a dedicated United Church woman, who taught Sunday School, participated in church committees and was organist at Cavendish United. Many hymns from Maud’s years in Cavendish were sung, led by a combined choir from both Cavendish United and Central Trinity United Church Breadalbane. Brenton Dickieson, a Montgomery historian, presented “The L.M. Montgomery that Canada Forgot”, focusing on Maud’s day-to-day rural life, which inspired her books and poems.
Before closing, may I remind you that I would be pleased to send greetings to ministry personnel who are due to retire. Am also still hoping to fill our Facebook page with photos of our church choirs. Please forward retirements and choir photos to me by email at: susalemaistre@gmail,com.
In faith,
Sue
Greetings Growth Seekers from Growth Animator Sharon
As we prepare for back-to-school time, return to the programs, activities and fall work of our communities of faith, are you exploring different ideas? Perhaps a blessing of the backpacks? Gathering school supplies to support those in need? Exploring needs locally for breakfast programs or lunch programs in schools, or considering innovative opportunities to bring people together within your community of faith and beyond its doors? Are you observing grandparents day Sept. 8? Perhaps invite grandparents and grandchildren to share photos and/or stories of memory making moments. Encourage some card making. Visit care homes and talk with people about their memories. Consider welcome back fall celebrations with meals or snacks. With your worship committee, plan to include special calendar dates throughout the year. Perhaps Peace Day Sept. 21, Orange Shirt Day Sept. 30, World Communion Oct. 6, Thanksgiving Oct. 13, World Food Sunday Oct. 20 (World Food Day Oct. 16, Eradication of Poverty Oct. 17) to name a few. Happy Creation time! Contact me and let me know what activities you are up to, or let’s brainstorm ideas in your context. You can reach me by email at sballantyne@united-church.ca or by phone 705 875-8837. Let’s grow together with deep spirituality, bold discipleship and daring justice.
Answer the Call in Beautiful PEI – FT Minister for Single Point Charge
Searching for a full time Ministry Personnel position to join us. We are an accepting and welcoming, multi-generational community of faith in rural Prince Edward Island. St. Andrew’s United Church is a single-point charge located in Vernon Bridge, centered between two growing towns: Stratford and Montague. The work we do at St. Andrew’s is connected to our Christian faith. We believe that as we work to connect the Church and our Christian values to the surrounding communities and the people within them, we are acting as disciples of Christ by making it a place where all people can come together to join in worship and prayer. Our attitude of acceptance and neighbourly conduct is a pillar in the way we worship. All are welcome in our church. We are moving – do you need anything
St. Paul’s United in Fredericton is moving out of our building. Like all moves, we have identified some excess resources and other congregational property that we will not need. Our preference is that this will go to other United Church Congregations. So siblings in faith, we encourage you to take a look through our inventory and let us know if your ministry could use any of these resources, by September 20th at the latest. To be connected with our property donation team contact our church office at stpaulsoffice224@gmail.com

St. Andrew’s UC New Richmond 185 Birthday
St. Andrew’s United Church
185th Anniversary Celebrations!
The cornerstone of our church was laid on November 30th, 1839, so this year marks 185 years of faith and service in our community. We are planning several activities to celebrate this achievement and hope that you, whether a regular church attendee or not, will come and celebrate with us.
To involve those who could be growing up in St. Andrew’s, on September 8th, 2024, at 10:00 am, we will mark Grandparents Day with a “Bring-your-grandkids-to-church” service!
For those who grew up in St. Andrew’s, on October 19th at 4:00 pm, there will be a “Teaspoon-Night” with special invitations to those of us who came of age in this congregation and still live in the area or are visiting.
For all who are and have been a part of St. Andrew’s, on November 30th, between 2:00 and 4:00 pm, we will gather in the church hall with music, coffee, tea and sweets while we share stories of our memories of the church through the years.
On December 1st at 10:00 am our service will celebrate 185 years of faith and service and will include Holy Communion. All who have helped us through the years to be of service in the community are invited.
